After decades of moving around the country, my wife and I pressed the reset button. We’d focused on climbing the corporate ladder, now it’s time to enjoy the view. So, we swapped the hamster wheel for more work-life balance and moved to Tucson.
Oh no, we’re not slowing down. Just shifting our priorities. And when I saw this piece, I had to share. The author is unknown. But it’s a reminder of three essential words, courtesy of Ram Dass.
Be Here Now
“The day barely started and it’s already six in the evening.
I just arrived on Monday and it’s already Friday.
…and the month is already over.
…and the year is almost over.
…and 40, 50 or 60 years of our lives have already passed.
We realize that we’ve lost our parents, our friends.
And we realize it’s too late to go back.
So, let’s try, despite everything, to enjoy the remaining time. Let’s put some color in our grey.
Let’s smile at the little things that put balm in our hearts.
Let’s continue to enjoy, with serenity, this time we have left.
Let’s try to eliminate the ‘afters’.
I’ll do it after…
I’ll think about it after…
We leave everything for later, like after is guaranteed.
But what we don’t understand is that:
Afterwards, priorities change…
Afterwards, the charm is broken…
Afterwards, health passes… Afterwards, the kids grow up…
Afterwards parents get old…
Afterwards, promises are forgotten…
Afterwards, the day becomes night…
Afterwards life ends…
And then it’s too late…
So, let’s leave nothing for later…
Because while waiting for later, we can lose the best moments,
the best experiences,
the best friends,
the best family.
The day is today. The moment is now.
Don’t postpone what needs to be done right away.”
